Getting Involved

Bereavement Services

The death of a loved one is the most profound of all sorrows. Although family members and friends may be supportive immediately following a death, there are times when they seem to feel the grieving person should be ready to “return to normal.” This may happen long before the grief process has been resolved. Someone outside the family who cares, understands and listens may be exactly what’s needed.

Yolo Hospice provides bereavement services to those who have recently lost loved ones. These services are available to those who’ve been in our care as well as community members.

Our Services

Counseling Services
Grief counselors and trained volunteers provide individual counseling, family meetings, home visits and telephone contact as needed. Referrals to additional support resources are made when appropriate.

Support Groups
Support groups are offered throughout the year and are led by experienced facilitators. All are welcome to attend the drop-in group at any time. It is an ongoing group. All other support groups require pre-registration. Group size is limited to 10 participants and groups meet weekly for 8 weeks.

Education and Outreach
Education, in-service training, resources and referral are provided to schools, skilled nursing homes, and other community organizations upon request.

Annual Memorial
The community is invited to attend the annual memorial service hosted by Yolo Hospice each November. The interfaith spiritual service honors patients who died during the year.

Quotes

Ted Skiera
"I've worked for 20+ years in cardiovascular and oncology nursing, most recently working as a nurse coordinator in cardiovascular research. My work with Yolo Hospice has enabled me to focus all of my acute clinical experiences into caring for patients, and their loved ones, during a most challenging period of their lives."
