Who Pays for Hospice?
Payment for hospice services are provided by:
- Medicare Part A , under the Hospice Medicare Benefit
- California Hospice Medi-Cal Benefit
- Commercial HMOs in California since 2002

- Through the generosity of our communities (donations and memorials) Yolo Hospice serves all regardless of ability to pay. For those who have no insurance and demonstrate financial need, care is provided on a reduced basis or is donated free of charge.
What is provided under the Medicare or Medi-Cal
Hospice Benefit?
Hospice provides comfort care to patients through:
- Regular nursing visits for pain and symptom management. Nurses also provide teaching and support to the caregiver. Twenty-four (24) hour emergency nursing visits are available, 7 days a week.
- Social workers assist patients and families with social, economic and psycho-social concerns and needs.
- A non-denominational chaplain/spiritual counselor is available to patients and their families who desire spiritual support.
- Experienced certified hospice aides bathe patient and provide personal care.
- Compassionate, trained volunteers offer companionship and practical support.
- Specialized bereavement counselors provide support to patients and to their families.
- Durable medical equipment (hospital beds, wheel chairs, oxygen, etc), medications related to the terminal disease process, wound supplies (if related to terminal disease process), briefs and chux are paid.
- Admission to a skilled nursing facility for respite care is available.
- Admission to a hospital for acute symptom management is available.
- 24hr. continuous care can be provided during periods of crisis.
*A hospice can charge 5% of the reasonable cost, up to a maximum of $5.00 per prescription for outpatient or biologicals for pain relief and symptom management. Also, a $5.00 per day charge for inpatient respite care can be charged to the patient. However, Yolo Hospice waives this cost to the patient at this time.
