Getting Involved

Great Food, Great Community

By Nancy Bodily, Volunteer Services Manager

So much joy and emotion comes from sharing a meal with loved ones, especially in a favorite restaurant. While our patients and loved ones would delight at the thought of sharing a meal in their favorite restaurant, declining health and frailty confines most of our patients to their homes. That is why we’re working on bringing an enjoyable meal to them!

We are calling this the Comfort Dinner Project. It will offer a one-time donated dinner to hospice patients and their loved ones, along with a bouquet of donated flowers.

On the night of the dinner, Yolo Hospice volunteer(s) will arrive at the restaurant to pick up the prearranged meal and deliver it to the patient’s home whether that is a skilled nursing facility or a family dining room. Yolo Hospice will set a beautiful table, and the family can enjoy a nice, celebratory dinner in their own space.

We are still building our list of participants. If you own a restaurant, floral shop or have friends who do, we want to hear from you. If you would like to participate, donate funds or volunteer for this program, please contact us too.  Contact Volunteer Services Manager Nancy Bodily at 530-758-5566, or nbodily@yolohospice.org.

Quotes

Judy Norton
"Coping with terminal illness is all consuming for patient and family. As a hospice nurse, I feel it is most important to advocate, respect and use the knowledge we have to make the end of life the most comfortable it can be while always keeping in mind the unique needs of each patient."
~Jody Norton, RN
